Following the correct preparation steps helps improve the effectiveness of your bed bug heat treatment and ensures the heat can circulate properly throughout the affected areas.
Before your appointment, all residents and pets, including fish, must be kept away from the property during the treatment for safety reasons.
Remove all affected bedding, including sheets, pillowcases, and duvet covers. Clothing, bedding, and other washable fabrics should be washed at 60-90°C, depending on the fabric type, and sealed in plastic bags afterwards to help prevent re-infestation. Delicate items that cannot be hot washed can be placed in a freezer for 24 hours instead.
Empty wardrobes, suitcases stored under beds, and remove personal belongings such as clothes, shoes, toys, and loose items from floors and treatment areas. These items should be bagged and stored safely away from the affected rooms.
A small number of coats or jackets that cannot be washed may be left hanging in the treated room so they are exposed to the heat. However, large amounts of clothing should not remain on hangers, as this can restrict airflow and reduce treatment effectiveness.
Please declutter the room and move furniture slightly away from walls so technicians can access skirting boards, cracks, and common hiding spots. Vacuum the affected areas thoroughly, paying close attention to under beds, skirting boards, and crevices where bed bugs may hide or lay eggs.
Your technician will also advise you if any heat-sensitive belongings, cosmetics, electronics, artwork, or other personal items need to be removed or stored safely before the treatment begins.
