Whitchurch-on-Thames, a picturesque village in Oxfordshire, sits on the banks of the River Thames, approximately 5.5 miles (9 km) northwest of Reading. It neighbors Whitchurch Hill and is across the river from Pangbourne. The village is known for its historic Church of England parish, Saint Mary, which underwent renovations in the 15th century and was rebuilt by architect Henry Woodyer in 1858. The parish is now affiliated with the Langtree Team Ministry. Whitchurch has played a vital role in managing water levels along the Thames since the 16th century, with a weir and flash lock that was later replaced by Whitchurch Lock in 1787. The original Whitchurch Toll Bridge, connecting the village to Pangbourne, was built in 1792 and has undergone multiple reconstructions. The current toll for crossing the bridge by car is 60 pence.
