Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a handyman charge per hour?
Most people pay around £30 per hour for a handyman outside London, rising to £45–£65 per hour in London and the South East. A furniture assembler's hourly rate is similar — around £30 outside London — with most flat-pack items costing £40–£80 to put together.
What is the most expensive handyman or trade job?
Kitchen fitting, at £1,700–£3,000 in labour for a standard installation (units and worktops on top), leads the category. Roof repairs can reach £2,500 depending on the fault, and painting a large room with ceilings and woodwork runs £600–£1,000+.
Why are handyman prices higher in London?
The hourly gap is wide — around £30 outside London against £45–£65 in the capital — driven by wages, travel time, parking and congestion charges. Fixed jobs carry a similar premium: door fitting moves from £80–£200 to £120–£300, and TV wall mounting from £60–£120 to £90–£200.
How can you save on handyman jobs?
Batch small tasks into one booking — a TV mount (£60–£120), a toilet seat fix (£40–£90) and a couple of flat-pack items (£40–£80 each) cost less in a single hourly visit than as three separate call-outs. Having materials bought and access clear before arrival saves paid time too.
