East Finchley, a charming area in North London, is located just north of Hampstead Heath. It straddles the London Boroughs of Barnet and Haringey, with the majority falling within the London Borough of Barnet. Known for having the greenest high road in London, East Finchley is situated 5.4 miles (8.7 km) northwest of Charing Cross. It is separated from the rest of Finchley by the North Circular, with North Finchley and West Finchley to the north, and Finchley Central (Church End) to the northwest. Originally mentioned in 1365 as a scattered hamlet, East Finchley became the most populous part of Finchley by 1860. Despite suffering heavy bombing during World War II and subsequent rebuilding, the area still retains a strong sense of community. Previously part of the parish of Finchley, it was incorporated into Middlesex in 1878 and later became part of Greater London in 1965. While falling within the parliamentary constituency of Finchley and Golders Green, East Finchley is recognized as a distinct village in its own right and is not considered part of the town of Finchley.
